520 _aPlants of the Qur'ān is the first book that investigates the etymology and history of the plants mentioned in the Qur'ān. It illustrates the historical and present cultural significance and uses of the plants, and explores the context in which they are mentioned, in the text of the Qur'ān. The book gives descriptions of all plants and suggestions are provided where the identity of a plant is not certain, using recent scientific and archaeobotanical evidence. Each plant is illustrated with a detailed coloured botanical painting showing its habit, leaves, flowers, fruits and dissections of some parts. All efforts have been made to illustrate the plants from living speciments in their wild habitat, and to show as much as possible the original cultivars of several of the plants that are now widely grown and used
